My Story

Hi, I'm Mel (that's me on the left).  Welcome to Elbury Court!

What prompted me to start Elbury Court?

Well, first and foremost, I am a self confessed Shopaholic. I just love clothes. I'm forever perusing websites looking at what's in, what's not.  I can (and have) spent many, many hours losing myself in fashion blogs, Instagram stories and Facebook posts, soaking up as much as I can about fashion and the retail industry in general.

I didn't start out in retail.  I have been in the 'Corporate World' for 30 years, as a Recruiter and then in Operations Management, before I decided to take the plunge and start my little 'side hustle' a few years ago.

So why retail, specifically women's fashions?

My weight has fluctuated dramatically over the years (what can I say, I'm only human).  As a result, my wardrobe ranges in size from a 12 to an 18.  I have often found it difficult buying a size 18 - most well known brands stop at a size 14, though some have started going up to a 16.  So, that was part of the motivation behind creating Elbury Court.  I wanted to created somewhere that was 'size inclusive', where women could jump online and find comfortable, quality and easy to wear clothing, for all shapes and sizes.

I mentioned quality above.  This is something that is very important to me.  For as long as I can remember, my friends have handed me items of clothing when we've been out shopping and asked that I do a quick 'quality check'.  I don't know how or why, but I've always had an uncanny knack for identifying flaws/faults in items.  I've lost count of how many times I've switched items over because there has been a pull, or the pattern hasn't aligned on the seams properly etc.  I hate receiving items that aren't 100%, I've had to return my fair share over the years and it's frustrating, time consuming and can be expensive.  So, rest assured I'm not going to post you anything that is less than perfect.

Why the name 'Elbury Court'?

I grew up on Elbury Court, so it was a sentimental name choice for me.  I associate the name with so many good memories.

I hope that your visit to Elbury Court is just as memorable! Thank you for stopping by and for your interest in my story.

Happy shopping!
